Debbie with a Dispatch

Hi Friends!

Welcome to the vibrant world of New Orleans drag!

Ready to dive into a world of glitz, glam, and unapologetic fabulousness? Take a strut through this sparkly corner of the internet and don't forget to follow my dazzling escapades on Instagram (@DebbieWithaD) for the scoop on upcoming shows.

DRAG BRUNCH?! I’ve got you covered! Check out Saint John and make your reservations HERE! Drag brunch happens every Sunday with rolling reservations. We twirl every hour on the hour; at 12pm, 1pm, and 2pm. I recommend getting a reservation 15 to 30 minutes before each hour so you have time to order a cocktail and help us get the party started!

BOURBON STREET?! I’ve got you there too! I host an open talent night every Tuesday night at 8:30pm! You’ll see drag, burlesque, comedy, live vocals and music, and see everything mild to wild! This show is a competition and each night the performers turn it out to win the cash prize! If you are interested in competing (or just sharing you talent) use the signup link posted in my Instagram bio!

PRIVATE EVENTS?! Do you have a stage that needs some extra pizzazz? Reach out about booking me for a show or event! All the details to summon my glam squad are just a click away on the contact page!

Can’t wait to see you at a show and twirl with you soon!

XOXO

Drag is a crucial art form. It makes a space that can turn personal, social, and political turmoil into power and strength.”

-Debbie with a Doctrine

Drag is a statement for me; a rebellion against oppression, against stigma, against the patriarchy and any religion that says if you don’t fit a certain standard of “normalcy” you are unfit to be loved. It’s a statement for people like the young me who needed to see strength in our community and have a safe and fun space to heal and grow. It’s my culture. It’s participating in history. It’s also just a ton of fun!

A portion of all book sales are donated to CrescentCare’s food pantry. Part of a good continuum of care program for HIV clients at CrescentCare is making accessible healthy, nutritious, and tasty meals and grocery choices. Often clients do not have the resources or the ability to buy groceries or prepare nutritious meals for themselves. You can also donate directly to this program HERE.

Debbie with a Demo

“Debbie with a D” is here to tell you about HIV and STI Testing, Prevention, and U=U. She has a Master’s in Public Health from Tulane University (under another name of course) and she takes every chance she gets to incorporate public health messaging and access to health care resources in her drag and at her shows.

Check out her four part video series on HIV/STI testing tutorials. This includes information on self test kits as well as what to expect when you come in to a clinic.

The first video in the series is on how to do blood spot collection testing. You can watch that below!

Learn how to use OraQuick HIV oral swab self test kit, at home HERE. These test kits are usually available at drugstores and as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic many clinics across the United States now have these as a free option in addition to walk-in testing. Ask around!

If you do want to walk into a local clinic for rapid HIV/STI testing you can learn what to expect from your session HERE.

Finally, gaining popularity is full panel (syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and HIV) STI testing that you can do at home. Watch Debbie show you how to collect the oral swab, anal swab, and urine sample then package and send it off to the lab HERE
